Nothing special today anyway… Just want to share this craft, a metallic heart made by my nephew. Very timely since this day is also the Chinese New Year’s Day – the year of the metal tiger. Arghhhh!!!!! Ggrrrrrr......

Spoolie Doll

I was scanning the “Crafting & Decorating” craft book given to me by my sister. There are so many projects that interest me. But I don’t have the materials. There are many terms of materials which I’m not familiar with and was not available in the local stores.

I happen to scan on the page of dolls. I find it very cute. Although I don’t have large beads to use to make it, so I only use the beads available in my bead box. I found the cute wooden beads and abaca rope and decided to make one.

I was able to finish it within 5 minutes. It’s my first time to make a spoolie doll. Yet I feel like an expert. LOL….Well… well… it’s a very easy-to-do craft. Even non-crafter can string miniature wood spools and beads on a twine to create a delightful mini-people.

Salty Candle

I would like to share to you a new craft idea, a candle made out of salt and oil. Yup!!! You read it right - SALT; different from the usual candle that is made of wax. Since it is not made of wax then you can use it many times. You just need to refill it with oil.

You can make this with your kids. My niece help me with this craft.

What you need:

A glass container

Salt (enough to fill the container)

Cooking oil (use cooking oil is an alternative)

Colored chalk

For the wicker:

match stick and cotton (form it like a cotton bud)

Procedures:

1. Rub the chalk to the salt until the salt assumes the color of the chalk. I use color blue, green, yellow, orange, and red here.

2. Put the colored salt into the container alternately or you can do whatever art you want to create.

3. Put the wicker and pour the cooking oil. Be sure that the cotton of the wicker is soak with oil.

4. Now, you can use the candle. (NOTE: It will take you few seconds before the wicker burns). Refilll with cooking oil if it's necessary.

Piggy-Bank-Which-Is-Not-Really-A-Pig

My piggy bank… but it’s not a pig! Yup! You’re right…. I don’t know the right term, so I will call it piggy-bank-which-is-not-really-a-pig (LOL). Anyway it has the same purpose – SAVING MONEY!!!!

The head is actually a coconut shell. The coconut plant, about 2 feet high, was uprooted. According to my father, it’s easier to get the flesh inside the coconut when it was already growing since its flesh is already dry.

This is my first attempt to beautify the coconut shell. And I find it very bland.

So I decided to add some decorations. One thing that is lacking is its stand.

My sister suggested putting it on a jar, and turning the shell into upside down, so that the coconut shell will look like a head with an eye and mouth on it. So to maintain the ethnicity of my piggy-bank-which-is-not-really-a-pig, I rapped the body with an abacca rope.
And… wow I love it!!!!

Message in a Bottle

Who have thought that empty bottles could turn into something unique craft? 

This craft is a wedding give a way, specially made by the couple themselves. I was really impressed of the creativeness done to the bottle. Lately I’ve been thinking of what to do with the empty wine bottles since we cannot sell it. Actually, I have lots of ideas back in my mind, including flower vase. It’s actually included on my To-do-list.

Back in my college days I also did a craft similar to this one. I’m using a plastic bottle and painted it with orange. But the output is not as good as this one. I promise, one of these days, I’m gonna make a craft similar to it. I’m still trying to figure out how they did it.

Perhaps, I’ll add it to my To-do List.

In a simple little way we can contribute on how to save earth. Like what I said in my previous post, Bead Organizer, always think twice before you throw scraps. There are lots of things you can do on it. Just explore the creativity in your mind. And I’m pretty sure you’ll discover ideas beyond your imagination.

Ribbon Bulletin Board

I saw this craft at Art Angel, a program of one network station in Philippines - GMA. I was inspired to make one.  I love the craft idea and since there are ribbons from the corsage, wedding invitations and gifts we received so I just reuse it and made a wonderful bulletin board out of it.

Black frame bought at EPZA, Rosario Cavite during Christmas Bazaare 2006. At Art Angel, they were using cardboard to make the frame.

   

I installed it inside my cabinet at the back of the [cabinet] door. This actually my Goal Bulletin Board. I’m posting some pictures and statements that will remind me of my goals and dreams in life.
