Crafter's Book

My sister, Jeia, really knows what I love. She gave me this crafting book. But I know I have to share it with my niece, Love, who is also passionate with Art. But Love is less interested with it because it’s more on house decorating (flower arrangement and curtain making). Actually there are lots of crafting ideas that they can make.

Anyway I planned to give my nieces and nephews an art session (maybe once a month or this coming summer). They are convincing me to conduct a tutorial for them …. LOL.

Then this crafting book will be my source of crafting ideas. I’m so excited and eager to teach them, that is if my time/schedule will permit. (sigh).

Feeling Blue

Sorry for not posting lately. The whole month of July was so terrible. My father is sick and I thought it will get worst. I’m a little paranoid because most of our neighbor died from cancer. My father is a smoker; He is now suffering with smoker’s cough. But I thank God, because his lung x-ray was clear.

He stopped smoking last month, I think on the first week of July. But he was really sick. He easily got fever and his nose was bleeding. I think it’s one of the effect of abrupt stop of smoking or what they called withdrawal syndrome.

But his behavior was really different; He no longer cooks breakfast for us, he sleeps most of the time, he really looks pale and most of the time silent and easily get irritated.

I was really in pain everytime I see him lying down and hearing him coughing the whole night.

So to ease myself from worries and pain I made this blue beaded bracelet.
P.S. Sory if it's not captured perfectly. I'm  still  learning how to get best view of an object.

Magazine for Bead Jewelry Making

I bought a magazine about bead jewelry making. Since my sister left me with a bunch of beads then it's high time for me show my skills in bead making. And I'm honestly inspired to create.

But my boyfriend was laughing at me when he saw the mag. Grrrr!!! LOL.... It's because it's written in a different dialect. I do not know if it's Japanese or Chinese. LOL.... But I'm pretty sure I can still get the instructions on bead jewelry making.

For me pictures are easier to follow than text instructions. LOL...

Salty Candle

I would like to share to you a new craft idea, a candle made out of salt and oil. Yup!!! You read it right - SALT; different from the usual candle that is made of wax. Since it is not made of wax then you can use it many times. You just need to refill it with oil.

You can make this with your kids. My niece help me with this craft.

.

What you need:

A glass container

Salt (enough to fill the container)

Cooking oil (use cooking oil is an alternative)

Colored chalk

For the wicker:

match stick and cotton (form it like a cotton bud)

Procedures:

1. Rub the chalk to the salt until the salt assumes the color of the chalk. I use color blue, green, yellow, orange, and red here.

2. Put the colored salt into the container alternately or you can do whatever art you want to create.

3. Put the wicker and pour the cooking oil. Be sure that the cotton of the wicker is soak with oil.

4. Now, you can use the candle. (NOTE: It will take you few seconds before the wicker burns). Refilll with cooking oil if it's necessary.

.

“Thousands of candles can be lit from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened. Happiness never decreases by being shared.” Hindu Prince Gautama Siddharta, the founder of Buddhism, 563-483 B.C.

Melted-Crayon Painting

I already posted these arts at my blog, Spices of My Life. But I’m going to post it again here since this blog is all about arts and crafts.

This craft was made last 2007 during the time when I was still jobless. Actually, art is my way of getting rid from boredom. It is my passion. It is one of my sources of my happiness.

I would like to emphasize that it is made out of CRAYONS, different brands to achieve best shades of the color.

Hope you like it.

Piggy-Bank-Which-Is-Not-Really-A-Pig

My piggy bank… but it’s not a pig! Yup! You’re right…. I don’t know the right term, so I will call it piggy-bank-which-is-not-really-a-pig (LOL). Anyway it has the same purpose – SAVING MONEY!!!!

The head is actually a coconut shell. The coconut plant, about 2 feet high, was uprooted. According to my father, it’s easier to get the flesh inside the coconut when it was already growing since its flesh is already dry.
.

This is my first attempt to beautify the coconut shell. And I find it very bland.
.

So I decided to add some decorations. One thing that is lacking is its stand.

My sister suggested putting it on a jar, and turning the shell into upside down, so that the coconut shell will look like a head with an eye and mouth on it. So to maintain the ethnicity of my piggy-bank-which-is-not-really-a-pig, I rapped the body with an abacca rope.
And… wow I love it!!!!
.
.

Anyway, do you have any suggestion to rename my piggy-bank-which-is-not-really-a-pig? Feel free to leave comments.
